Dr. B. N. Jagtap

Dr. B.N. Jagtap, head of the atomic and molecular physics division at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in India, has been cited as a game-changer in a recent feature article in Livemint & The Wall Street Journal.

After receiving his BSc from Ramnarain Ruia College in Mumbai, Jagtap completed a one-year orientation course in nuclear sciences at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre where he worked in the laser programme. This opportunity shaped the rest of his career as he became interested in the physics of molecular and atomic interactions with light.

Jagtap's current work covers a lot of ground, from investigating molecules that may play a role in astrophysics,  to photonics, to laser cooling atoms close to absolute zero. These utracold atoms have applications in quantum computing.
